About

Storyteller. Designer.
Builder. Multiplier.

Hello,

I'm Dilip Jagadeesh. The four words above are a sequence, not a list of titles. There's a fifth I left off the headline: coffee farmer, back home in India, when I can be. What follows is how I got here, what I believe, and how I lead.

Early years

My first team was three friends and a borrowed camera in South India. We told hard stories: voyeurism, child abuse, female feticide. We told them because no one else would. With zero budget and no film school, we still won twenty-plus awards. Vision and purpose move people, more than money ever will.

Patrol system

A few years later, a violent crime exposed deep cracks in local policing. I built a real-time patrol tracking system and pitched it to state ministers. They said I was too young. The project stalled in bureaucracy. Resilience, and the art of persuasion.

Farm belts

That same energy took me to India's farm belts, where rising suicides had left entire villages grieving. I partnered with NGOs and stitched together low-tech tools for crop advice, insurance literacy, and a mental health helpline. The government never signed on. The farmers did. Design for dignity, not just efficiency.

Hardware years

By 2015, I was deep in hardware. A $100 IoT add-on that turned any refrigerator smart. An Intel global win in Silicon Valley. A startup back home with fourteen people I believed in completely. When investor conflicts shut us down, I spent weeks finding each teammate a new role. Humility, transparency, and care, especially when things fall apart.

At scale

I now lead design for AI experiences and enterprise applications at Smartsheet, where 85% of the Fortune 500 manages their most complex work. I shape the multi-year strategy for Smartsheet's evolution into a unified AI-first platform. Design A11y, our AI accessibility tool, earned Fast Company's Innovation by Design and a W³ Award. Empathy travels far, when paired with systems thinking.

On the side

And on the side, I am still building stories. Tinyverse is a therapeutic storytelling platform for children with autism. Hyper-personalized narratives with consistent illustration, designed for social-emotional learning. Twenty years after my first film, the medium changed. The mission did not.

What working with me feels like.

values

Listen before leading.

Understanding comes before action.

Clarity over control.

I set the why. The team owns the how.

Say the hard thing, kindly.

Feedback should build, not bruise. Praise in public, critique in private.

State facts, offer hope.

Honesty in tough moments. Optimism about the path forward.

Safe risk, steady progress.

We learn fast, ship often, and treat failure as data.

Diversity makes us smarter.

Better ideas arrive when more lived experiences are in the room.

Work-life harmony.

Good work has rhythm. Every rhythm needs rest.

Growth is a shared job.

If someone leaves my team better than they came, I did my work.

How I think about design at scale.

principles

Start with clarity.

Define the user value, the business win, and what we will not solve.

Design systems, not surfaces.

Shared language and lightweight rules create real momentum.

Prototype over perfect.

Quick tests reveal truth faster than polished hypotheticals.

Break with intention.

Challenge safe defaults. Many insights live on the far side of a broken rule.

Process serves people.

Enough structure to cut chaos, never so much that it kills curiosity.

Data and empathy, in equal measure.

Numbers confirm direction. Listening confirms we chose the right road.

Face conflict with care.

Healthy debate, clear ownership, and a commitment to leave the room aligned.

Where I've been.
